Two award wins in September…
We were finalists for five awards covering sustainability, entrepreneurship and creativity. As with many awards, the ceremonies all took place virtually, and we’d like to express our thanks to all of the award organisers for their efforts in putting on a less than conventional, but by all accounts, an exciting ceremony. Read on to discover how we fared.
Bristol Life Awards
We’re delighted to have followed Ignition’s success winning the creative award at the 2020 Bristol Life Awards. The category celebrates the best of Bristol’s creative sector. This is a great achievement across Istoria Group’s agencies amongst a tough category. Here’s what the judges had to say:
“This highly-ambitious, distinctive collective creative group had an active year with a catalysing rebrand, national recognition, international collaborations and 26% employee growth underpinning step up to £13m sales.”

IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards
Group agency, Ignition were recognised for innovation in sustainability with two shortlists for the IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards 2020, the ‘Sustainable Leader’ and ‘Sustainable Organisation’ categories.
They were thrilled to have won the Sustainable Organisation award, which was quickly followed by our CEO being highly commended within the Sustainable Leader category.
“The winner of this category has gone further by including not only environmental, but economic and social aspects within their business model.
Ignition DG carries out their core functions in ways designed to deliver circularity, as well as promoting positive impact. By demonstrating that change is possible in the events and exhibitions sector they are inspiring behaviour change within their own organisation, as well as throughout their sector and customer base.”
Ignition is a UK & US based, women-owned SME specialising in the design and management of events around the world. The CEO is dedicated to a sustainability ethos, having set up the company in opposition to the industry’s ‘build and burn’ wasteful practices.
It was first in the industry to achieve standard ISO 20121 – Sustainable Events Management, and has also achieved ISO 14001 – Environmental Management and ISO 9001 – Quality Management. Ignition has been granted The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Sustainable Development 2020.
It sets approximately 20 annual objectives, covering emission reduction, community action, company growth and re-usable solutions. Examples of its emission reductions include a 25% overall decrease from 2018-2019, off-setting all tracked unavoidable emissions in 2019 through charitable giving and achieving net carbon zero for scope 1 and part of scope 2 of the GHG Protocol.
The company raised £3,347 for charity in 2019 and was awarded ‘Best Employer’ at the EN Elite awards in 2019. Ignition has also experienced significant growth year-on-year. Clients choose the company as a result of its sustainable ethos values and are committed to the re-use and re-purpose of exhibition kit as part of their CSR policies. Sustainability has led to a reduction of internal costs, passed on to clients.”
This is a great achievement and builds upon success earlier this year, winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.

Great british entrepreneur awards
Unfortunately, our Founder and Chairwoman just missed out on the ‘Creative Industries Entrepreneur’ and ‘Scale-up Entrepreneur of the Year’ award at the 2020 Great British Entrepreneur Awards for the South West region. Being shortlisted for two awards is still an achievement that Claire Menzies can be proud of.
