Congratulations to Sam Alderfer for winning this year’s EPIC award.

As 2019 draws to a close, our internal awards known as the ‘EPICs’ reward employees who have truly lived and breathed our values. This year we are delighted to award an EPIC - the highest honour bestowed on an employee - to Sam Alderfer.

The EPICs epitomise our values and are voted by employees and the leadership team for the culmination of an individual’s work throughout the year that was. They are rewarded with the equivalent of a £1,000 prize and plaque on the EPIC Hall of Fame wall.

Here’s what Sam and the judges had to say…

How did it feel to be named winner of the 2019 Annual EPIC Award?

I am truly honored to have been named a winner of the 2019 EPIC Award. This would not have been possible without the support of the US and UK projects team. The whole team worked hard to make this happen. I am very grateful for being recognized and named an EPIC Award winner and appreciative of those who nominated me.

Which EPIC values really count for you & why?

‘Collaborative Working’ really resonates with me. I enjoy collaborating and accomplishing big things as part of a team. When you’re able to bring people together with fresh perspectives and diverse backgrounds on a project team, you’re usually setting the project up for success. I have personally learned so much from my colleagues at Ignition through collaboration and have grown as a project manager by learning from their experiences.

What are you most proud of in your work for ignition?

I am most proud of my commitment to supporting my colleagues and teammates at Ignition. 2019 was an incredibly busy year for us. I volunteered to travel on-site for as many projects as I could to help teammates when they needed additional support, which often resulted in me being out of the office a lot and working extended hours. However, I knew I could count on my colleagues to support me as well when I felt pressured. This company-wide mentality of putting others first and supporting each other is what makes working for Ignition so rewarding.

What personally motivates you?

I really like challenging myself and advancing on a personal and professional level. That is what attracted me to project management with Ignition to begin with. Our projects are challenging and unique, forcing me to develop new skills that I would have never attempted on my own. I am driven by my desire to learn new things – big or small – and take on new responsibilities so I am constantly growing and contributing more to my team and to Ignition.

Sam has embodied the essence of E, P, I, and C relentlessly and unwaveringly throughout the year. He not only continues to strive for excellence in everything he does, but also NEVER say’s no, and comes to work every day with a smile. If I could duplicate his positive work approach and gift it to the entire company, I would!
