Becoming a B Corp, how and why?

Recently, our CEO, Sam Rowe attended Cardiff OPEN to conduct a B Corp discussion, sharing insights into how we became a B Corp certified business. The talk highlighted challenges we’ve faced over the years, the benefits of becoming a B Corp, and the positive impact it’s had on us as a business. In case you missed it, we wanted to fill you in on the details!

So, what’s a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations are part of a movement using business as a force for good. These companies prioritise people and the planet over profits, redefining business success. At Istoria Group, our 2007 founding vision was to balance people, planet and profit while delivering outstanding creative work.

How does it work?

B Corp Certification indicates a company's commitment to social and environmental performance, not perfection. It's about being part of a global community striving for economic systems change and meeting rising standards. This certification builds credibility, trust, and value, attracting employees, customers, and investors who believe in ethical business practices.

What’s it like running a B Corp business?

Running a B Corp is uniquely rewarding, balancing purpose and profit. Our purpose-driven mission motivates us to make a positive impact beyond financial gain. We consider the impact on all stakeholders and commit to transparency and accountability. This approach attracts talent and customers aligned with our values, fosters innovation, and ensures long-term sustainability.

Our B Corp journey

Istoria Group became a Certified B Corp in August 2022, after over two years of dedication. In 2007 Istoria Group was founded with a vision of making a positive difference. We’ve earned several accolades, including ISO certifications and The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. Achieving B Corp status was a significant milestone. We’re now carbon neutral for Scopes 1 & 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and aim to be fully carbon neutral by 2030.

What are the benefits of running a B Corp business?

On top of the benefits for people and planet, business benefits of being a B Corp include protecting your mission as you scale your business, raising mission-aligned capital, networking with high-performing peers and accessing technology, talent and expertise.

How do B Corps get certified?

B Corp Certification is based on three pillars: verified performance, transparency, and legal accountability. Companies must score a minimum of 80 points on the B Impact Assessment, demonstrating their impact on workers, community, customers, and the environment. Istoria Group achieved a score of 97.1 after a two-year effort. Transparency builds trust, as all certified B Corps must publicly share their B Impact Report. Meeting the legal requirements ensures B Corps maintain their mission as they grow, providing flexibility and preparing for future challenges.

We’re proud to be part of the B Corp community, striving towards a future defined by meaningful impact, making the world a better place for future generations to come.

If you’re looking for a reason to take the step and start your B Corp journey, then this is it.
