Congratulations to Nick Ackland for winning this year’s EPIC award.
As 2018 draws to a close, our internal awards known as the ‘EPICs’ reward employees who have truly lived and breathed our values. This year we are delighted to award an EPIC - the highest honour bestowed on an employee - to Nick Ackland.
The EPICs epitomise our values and are voted by employees and the leadership team for the culmination of an individual’s work throughout the year that was. They are rewarded with the equivalent of a £1,000 prize and plaque on the EPIC Hall of Fame wall.
Here’s what Nick and the judges had to say…
How did it feel to be named winner of the first ever Annual EPIC Award?
I’ve put my heart and soul into starting and growing ‘i am a bookworm’, so winning the first ever EPIC award was a wonderful acknowledgement from the wider Group of the achievements myself and my team have achieved.
Which EPIC values really count for you & why?
P – A personable approach and the relationships we have built as a business over the last 10 years are everything to me. Without the personal relationships we’ve built, the business wouldn’t have succeeded.
What are you most proud of in your work?
We’ve produced more than 4.5 million books and these have been sold in over 30 different countries. The reach we’ve achieved despite being a small and lean team is something I’m especially proud of.
What personally motivates you?
I’m driven by the challenge of trying to do and be better than I did last year. I want to create better books, build more relationships and reach more children in more countries than we did last year.
